Football Round Up – December 2024
U14’s Utilita Girls Cup – Thursday 28th November 2024
The annual 6 a side Utilita girls cup arrived with Clystvale having 2 teams in the competition and look to see if they could replicate their 22/23 success of winning the tournament. Schools from across the south west took part with a total of 11 in total. Clyst Vale Community College team 1 consisted of Tiana, Ava, Lila, Annie-Rose, Lily, Maisey and River. In Clyst Vale Community College team 2 Zara, Belle, Connie, Evie, Bettie, Chloe and Isabelle.
The schedule of the tournament was that everyone played each other and the team with the most points would qualify and represent Exeter City in the South West tournament. Both teams represented the school in a great manner and thoroughly enjoyed the footballing experience. Lily was on fire notching the most goals for team 1 with Connie, Chloe and Bettie sharing the goals between them. Annie-Rose chipped in with a few goals here and there also for team. Tiana and Zara were superb in goal and saving many shots to keep the score to a minimum for their team. Ava, Evie, River, Bella and Bettie were solid in defence and keen to support the strikers and get forward. Lila was very energetic and battled well winning the ball back for her team. Maisey and Isabelle were stand out passers for their teams collecting the ball and off loading it to their teammates.
The final game of the tournament saw both Clyst Vale teams face off against each other which was a fine way to see out the day. Team 1 were narrow winners winning 2-0 with goals from Lily and Annie-Rose. The standings of the tournament saw Exmouth win the tournament with Clystvale 1 finishing 3rd and Clystvale 2 finishing in 6th place which is a credit to the girl’s performance and effort. Well done to everyone involved your certificates will be handed out in assembly next week.
Monday 2nd December – Year 10 County cup vs Isca
First round of the county cup saw Clyst Vale line up against rivals Isca. After loosing 10-2 in a previous fixture a few years ago the boys look to overcome this defeat and be more competitive in the fixture. They did just this with Marley notching on his debut for the school with a lovely finish from a ball played over the top. The conditions were tough, and the boys couldn’t seem to get the ball down to play especially when ISCA were pressing so well. Ellis and Dylan were solid at the back in the first half clearing most of the balls away that came near them. Luka, Tom and Marley were trying to latch onto balls over the top. At half time it was 1-0 and still all to play for in the second half. ISCA swapped sides and had the wind to their advantage which aided them in equalising within the first 5 minutes of the restart. Not long after ISCA went 2-1 up with Clyst Vale snoozing at the start of the second half. A mix up at the back led to the striker looping it over the keeper. Clyst Vale held their own in the second half with Max, Harry and Owen being tenacious in midfield, Joe commanding the defence from the back and the strikers eager to work for there team. It was in the last ten minutes that Clyst Vale had the most pressure and looking for the goal to bring them level. Harry played the ball in behind the defence in which Luka latched on to and was through on goal coming in from the right-hand side. Approaching into the box about to shoot he was tackled from behind. PGCE student blew the whistle and pointed to the spot. PENATLY. A few seconds passed and the decision was overturned after a discussion with the lineman and a corner was given instead. The boys were not happy. Final few minutes ISCA made it 3-1. An excellent effort from the Year 10s who fought and battled right to the end and were unlucky not to come out with a more positive result.
Wednesday 4th December – U15s Last 16 National Cup away vs Gordano school
Into the final 32 of the country for the U15 girls who were on form coming into the game, beating the likes of Tiverton, Dawlish and Coombeshead comfortably to make it to this stage of the competition. Looking ahead to the fixture and Clystvale knew they were up against tough opponents as Gordano beat Millfield 3-2 in the previous round. This did not dent the girl’s confidence as the long bus journey was full of singing and laughter as they prepared for the game ahead. Clystvale started well and were playing the better football with most of the ball being in the attacking half. Daisy and Talulah were working hard to win the ball back in the final third but could not get a clear chance on goal. Sophia and Grace were battling hard in the midfield against some strong and athletic opponents. Miley, Vanessa, Ameera and Zoe did well at the back keeping the strikers at bay. A long ball over the top of Miley was latched onto by the very athletic and quick striker who finished it well passing the on looking goalkeeper. The striker went on to score another 3 goals in the game. Gordano were very strong and athletic which was a little too much for some of the Clystvale girls. Everyone battled well and tried to create chances, but it just did not happen for the girls. The final score finished 6-0 to Gordano. A massive congratulations to the Clystvale girls who did fantastically well to get to where they did and hopefully next year, they look to repeat their success in the competition before they leave in Year 11. Well done to the team, Sophie.W, Sophia.L, Ameera, Miley, Zoe, Vanessa, Kate, Sophia.T, Sophia.B, Grace, Daisy, Tallulah, Wiktoria and Leona.
