Inside COP26
Inside COP26 with former Post-16 student, Jasmine Daniels
Former Post-16 student Jasmine Daniels, who completed A-levels in Geography, Physics and Maths at Clyst Vale last year, sent us these photographs from the COP26 conference, which concluded last week.
Jasmine, who is now a student at Queen Mary (London) University, is currently studying for her degree in Environmental Science with Business Management. Whilst at COP26, Jasmine was supporting a team working for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
She was fortunate enough to access some private zones and was able to rub shoulders with some well-known political and public names – not least Joe Biden (complete with security entourage), Greta Thunberg, Hollywood climate activist, Leonardo DiCaprio and Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (Chadian environmental activist and geographer).
At the Ocean Sustainability meeting Jasmine was in a room with 14 heads of state, listening to figures such as Justin Trudeau, John Kerry, and Jonas Gare Støre!
Here she is pictured with Jonas Gare Støre, the Prime Minister of Norway, who showed an interest in her current studies and stopped for a brief chat and photo.
Jasmine participated as a panel member for one of the meetings and heard many indigenous speakers. She also met royalty, in the form of HRH Princess Abze Djigma (Commissioner of the Global Commission to End Energy Poverty) – and is pictured with her here.
At another event, chef Daniel Humm, fashion designer Gabriela Hearst and artist Dustin Yellin talked about how they are working to be sustainable in the face of climate change.
It’s really exciting to see our former students taking part in such high-profile events – and brilliant to keep up to date with their adventures after Clyst Vale!
