Year 9 History Trip to Belgium and France
The students who took part in the Year 9 trip to Belgium and France were superb ambassadors for Clyst Vale Community College. Miss Brotherton, Mr Brookes, Miss Jenkins and Mrs Padden were complimented on the students’ perfect behaviour by many people, including our coach driver and the British Legion staff at the Menin Gate.
We were able to lay a wreath at the Menin Gate, after meeting a gentleman from Brisbane Australia who was making his first visit to Belgium. He lost 23 members of his extended family in the First World War. Members of the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy were also at the memorial service that night.
Monty was able to lay flowers for his family at the memorial on the Somme battlefields. We stayed at the Peace Village near Ypres and, of course, laid flowers at the Harry Patch memorial nearby. It was a pleasure to be with students who were so thoughtful and respectful.
