Clyst Vale Celebrates Record GCSEs !!

The “class of 2015” have done themselves and the College proud ! 71.7% of them, or 124 students in real terms, have achieved at least five A*-C grades including English and Maths. This is an improvement of 3% on 2014’s results.

Actually, the results are even better than this suggests. Over a quarter of all grades achieved were A* or A grades, and 79% of all grades were A*-C. 104 students achieved at least one A grade among their results.

Not surprisingly, there were some stunning individual performances, and fourteen students achieved at least ten A*-A  among their results: Joe Durston (8A*, 4A), Louis Sullivan (8A*, 2A), Rachel Dunn (6A*, 6A), James Blakemore (6A*, 5A), Katie Martin (6A*,5A), Anna Thurley (5A*, 6A), Sophie Ellis (5A*, 5A), Joe Harker (5A*, 5A), Becky Self (5A*,5A), Bella Luke (4A*, 6A), Caitlin Tyrell (5A*,5A), Anna Sharkey (4A*, 6A), Chloe Betts (3A*, 7A), and Roshana Blakeley (2A*, 10A). James Blakemore also achieved a rare A* with distinction in Further Maths, equivalent to a full grade above an A*.

There were also great achievements by students who have been seriously affected by illness and absent from Clyst Vale for long periods; these students may only have gained four or five GCSE grades, but they have stayed in touch with education and have achieved enough to move forward in their lives. There is always a tendency to focus on the highest achievers on results day, but we are hugely proud of all of our students who have worked hard and gained the grades they deserve, whatever their ability. Several parents commented today about the support their children had received at Clyst Vale, and how much they appreciated our commitment to educating the whole child.

Almost all subjects improved on last year, with 90+% of students achieving A*-C grades in fifteen subjects. Progress in English improved again with 82% of students making at least expected progress, and 72% in Maths.

All in all, it has been a great day. There were loads of delighted students and parents, and of course it is a deserved reward for all of the hard work by staff, too. Ofsted judged us “good” in June, the A2 results last week were excellent, and now we have record GCSE results. The summer of 2015 has been one to remember !
