BPA Research Project

A group of 15 Year 12 students are participating in a unique collaborative research project with the University of Exeter Medical School determining the effects of removing a particular toxic chemical BPA from their diet. This has already involved two visits to Exeter University and a presentation in front of 200 people including the Vice Dean of the University. Our students were very impressive, and produced by far the most interesting and innovative way of presenting their ideas to the public. Clyst Vale Governor Dr Crawford Winlove is part of the project, and commented, “The presentation was exceptionally good, combining a brilliant short video with a really impressive live oral presentation – both defined by imagination and insight”.

The students will gain much from their involvement: improved knowledge of nucleic acids and gene control, new cutting edge research skills, and a significant enhancement to future university applications.
