Holocaust Memorial

As part of our History syllabus in Year 9 we study the Holocaust. This year many of our Year 9 students were fortunate enough to go to the Picture House in Exeter to meet Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, who managed to escape from Prague in 1938 due to the work and efforts of Sir Nicholas Winton. She sadly lost many of her family in the Holocaust.

As a follow up to this we asked all Year 9 students to design a memorial to all of those who died in the Holocaust. Leah Young (9YTL) produced this amazing clay statue for her History homework. The design shows a tower of shoes with a figure holding a star of David. Many other students produced great work but Leah’s work stands out for the quality of the art work and the empathy shown.
