Holocaust Memorial
As part of our History syllabus in Year 9 we study the Holocaust. This year many of our Year 9 students were fortunate enough to go to the Picture House in Exeter to meet Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, who managed to escape from Prague in 1938 due to the work and efforts of Sir Nicholas Winton. She sadly lost many of her family in the Holocaust.
As a follow up to this we asked all Year 9 students to design a memorial to all of those who died in the Holocaust. Leah Young (9YTL) produced this amazing clay statue for her History homework. The design shows a tower of shoes with a figure holding a star of David. Many other students produced great work but Leah’s work stands out for the quality of the art work and the empathy shown. Another wonderful piece of work from a Clyst Vale student.
