STEM Trip to Jaguar Land Rover
On Wednesday 10th July, a group of eight students went to visit the Jaguar Land Rover plant as part of a STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Maths) activity, and to collect the Industrial Cadet awards they had achieved through participation and success with their STEM club activities.
The group were part of only eight schools from across the county to be invited, and were given a warm introduction from David Mitchell, Chief Program Engineer, from JLR and several members of new Land Rover Evoque design, test and production teams. The students were given a tour of the plant and were able to see the full process of manufacture and witness cars roiling off the production line, one every 82 seconds! The students gained a much greater understanding of the manufacturing process and the way teams work in planning and working to achieve large goals. They also had the opportunity to discuss engineering careers with apprentices and graduates and undergo psychometric testing of their personal abilities. As part of the day students also experienced some of the Land Rover products on their test track and had an exciting tour.
The day culminated with an award presentation where students were awarded with their certificates and a signature T shirt for their achievements. We hope that these students will go from strength to strength with their STEM work and enhance their progression in several subjects across the curriculum.
